When is extraction necessary?
Wisdom teeth are the third molars located at the back of the mouth. Although some people’s wisdom teeth can develop with other teeth without causing any damage, sometimes a person’s mouth can be too small and this prevents the wisdom teeth from coming out properly. In these cases, extraction is usually necessary.
When the wisdom teeth remain partially or completely inside the jaw, they are likely to cause infection, inflammation of the nearby gums, or the development of benign cysts or tumors.
Your comfort above all!
Depending on the case, a procedure is performed to extract the tooth or facilitate its normal eruption. Most wisdom teeth extractions are performed by the dentists at Sourire Concept. However, your dentist may refer you to a maxillofacial surgeon depending on the complexity of the procedure required. By doing this, you also reduce the risk of cavities, which can be caused by the build-up of food debris that is difficult to remove with normal brushing and flossing.
Since this type of intervention often generates fear and anxiety, our team does everything they can to make your experience more comfortable. You can trust that the dentists at Sourire Concept will proceed with the extraction of your wisdom teeth calmly and gently.
Steps to Wisdom Teeth Extraction
1. First Appointment
Using a panoramic X-ray, the dentist will assess your dental structure to avoid the possibility of complications during surgery. Once the diagnosis is established, the day of the intervention is planned.
2. Intervention Day
Depending on the condition of the teeth to be extracted, the patient will need to undergo local anesthesia. We have the necessary equipment on hand to optimize your comfort.
3. Teeth Extraction
Through an incision in the gum tissue, the dentist frees your tooth and, in some cases, sections it. After extracting your tooth, the dentist closes the gum tissue with a few dissolving stitches.
4. Postop Follow-up
As a postoperative treatment, we can prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics and anti-hemorrhagic drugs as needed. Our goal is to make the following days as comfortable as possible.
The advantages of performing an extraction
The healing process is generally faster when the wisdom teeth are extracted in the teenage years or early twenties.
By consulting a dentist before the wisdom teeth develop, it is possible to avoid a lot of damage and inconvenience.
By extracting the wisdom teeth that remain partly hidden under the gum, you prevent the formation of cavities.
