What happens if I lose or break my Invisalign® aligner?

Invisalign® treatment is a technique that allows simple orthodontic corrections to be made by progressively moving the teeth. This is a modern technology in orthodontics that uses Invisalign® transparent aligners that are custom-made and unique to each patient.

A series of dental appliances are made according to a custom treatment plan developed by your dental professional. These transparent teeth aligners are changed at regular intervals until the end of the treatment (when the teeth have reached their final position).

Depending on the complexity of the work, more time may be needed to achieve the final result.

I lost/broke one of my Invisalign® aligners – what should I do?

The removable plastic aligners are made to straighten your teeth in a gentle and gradual manner. It is therefore essential to wear the set of aligners in the correct order and to follow the usage recommendations given to you by your orthodontist.

We recommend that you always put your current invisible braces back in its case when you need to remove it to avoid breaking or losing it. As for previous aligners (from completed weeks), it is advisable to keep them in a case or somewhere safe until the end of your treatment process so that you can reuse them if necessary.

If you break or lose an aligner from your Invisalign® treatment, we may advise you to try to use the next aligner, even if it is a little tight. We will add the number of days that correspond to the missing invisible aligner to your treatment time to compensate for the loss.

If it is impossible for you to put the next aligner, we recommend using the aligner from the previous step. This way you will keep the efforts in place. Contact your orthodontist so that they can place an order for a replacement Invisalign® aligner.

If this is the case, replacement costs will be charged. Depending on the stage you are in your treatment, new aligners will be made, based on the impressions taken at your initial consultation..

If you have lost or broken an aligner, the best person who can advise you is your dentist or orthodontist!
