Because your dental and oral health is important to us (and also because we like to see you again!), we recommend preventive follow-up to all patients in the clinic. We divide this treatment into two parts: the recall examination and the scaling. The recall exam is useful to make sure that your oral health has not deteriorated since the last exam.
Preventive follow-up is the best time to update the information already collected and take x-rays, if necessary. The condition of your mouth and teeth as well as your risk for certain diseases determine whether further x-rays are needed.
A two-part intervention
Because your mouth and teeth are heavily used parts of the body, they tend to wear out more quickly. The goal of preventive dentistry is to detect and treat the pathology as early as possible, thus avoiding certain complications. Scaling is necessary to remove tartar and bacteria that have built up since your last preventive follow-up, despite rigorous brushing and daily flossing.

Steps of Preventive Dentistry
1. Variable frequency
Depending on the patient’s oral health and risk factors, we recommend visiting us every 3, 4, 6, 9 or 12 months.
2. Data Collection
The dental hygienist collects data and takes the necessary x-rays, depending on the dentist’s request as well as the patient’s condition.
3. Follow-up
The dentist performs the recall examination during the scaling. Don’t worry, these steps are quick and usually painless.
4. Descaling
The dental hygienist performs a thorough cleaning of your teeth.
